Cutler Learning Commons

The class has been enjoying a weekly visit to the Cutler Learning Commons. On Wednesday mornings, we have spent time using an app on the IPADS that teaches basic coding and playing a variety of strategy games. Also, the children have been reading and exploring some of the new center materials. Mrs. Hebert and I are planning a 3D shape sculpture project!

On Wednesday mornings,we have enjoyed learning how to play Yahtzee with Jonas' mom and Isabelle's grandma.  It is a great way to practice adding! If you don't have the game at home, it would make a great holiday gift. Please let me know if you would like to come in and share a favorite family game with the class. I would love to teach the children how to play Mancala.

Requirements to chaperone of volunteer!

  I just wanted to remind all of  you that you need to finger printed and submit a cori form to volunteer in the classroom or to be a chaperone. The links are below. If you completed these requirements last year or the year before, you do not need to resubmit the forms or be fingerprinted again. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I Messages-Olweus Meeting

This week's Olweus meeting focused on formulating and communicating I messages in a strong and respectful way.  The children worked in pairs to record I messages that matched shared everyday school and home conflicts.

Features of Non-Fiction

On Friday morning, we all chose a non fiction book from our independent book bins.  We reread the text and used a sticky note to highlight one fact to share with our classmates. We recorded the fact on a white board and created an illustration with labels.  The finished fact boards and the texts were displayed on our table spaces. The children enjoyed reading each others work.

Growth Mind Set

This year, the Cutler Learning Community is focusing on Growth Mindset and how we can incorporate it into our classrooms so everyday the children are thinking about how their brains can grow and become stronger when they work on challenges and new concepts.
