Genre Study- Folktales

The children and I have started a genre study focused on folktales.  We read and discussed, Why The Sky Is Far Away, a Nigerian folktale. After, the students worked with a learning partner to share their ideas about the lesson in the tale. The next folktale will be, Martina The Beautiful Cockroach, a Cuban folktale. We will then think about those two texts and start to collect our noticing about the stories. As we continue to read and discuss more folktales, we will write our class definition of this genre.
