Soup and Smoothie Lunch

My thanks to everyone who sent in supplies and came in to the classroom to be prep chefs and servers. The lunch was fantastic! The children had a wonderful time celebrating our study of nutrition and healthy habits. We enjoyed sitting together and trying our smoothies and soup!

Bocce

Ian has been teaching many his classmates how to play Bocci at morning recess. Everyone is enjoying the new game.

Inner Explorer

Each day, we record our thoughts in a journal. Here are some of the children's ideas and thoughts about our daily mindfulness program.

I am happy when I hear the rainstick and the wind chimes.
I felt like I was growing in my brain.
I thought the ideas of thoughts passing in and out was a great idea.
I learned I can close my eyes and think better.
I felt like someone was knocking on my head and everything was coming alive.
I was thinking about setting my thoughts into clouds/
I felt relaxed and comfortable.
I felt calm and was really focused and I entered my inside.

Math-Partition A Rectangle

 We finished our study of cubes and focused on the number of equal faces. We built cubes out of gum drops and toothpicks and created a paper cube. Now, we have moved our studies to the following standard:

2G.2 Partition a  rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares to find the total number of them

Today, we used 12 square tiles and built as many different rectangles as we could using the total of 12. We discussed the different arrays and how many tiles were in each row and column. Then, we discussed using repeated addition to explain the number of tiles in each array.

When recording our work in our journals, we have focused on attending to precision, look for and make use of structure and look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning- which are Standards 6, 7, and 8 of the Standards of Mathematical Practice
