Picasso

On Wednesday morning, we had our first all school assembly. Our thanks to the Friends Of Cutler for bringing Picasso Alive to school. The performance was fabulous. The children enjoyed seeing some of Picasso's most famous works come to live.

Fire Safety Presentation

 The children participated in the Fire Safety program presented by the Hamilton Fire Department. The children reviewed many fire safety procedures including Stop, Drop and Roll, Stay Low and Go and a family meeting place. Do you have a family meeting place and have you practiced a fire drill at home?  The highlight was practicing Stay Low and Go through the fake smoke.  Our thanks to Jonas and Jonathan's mom for joining us.

Please Save Your Empty Containers

Please save your empty food boxes, cans, bags and containers for a 3D sculpture project. In teams, the children will create sculptures and record how many different 3D shapes and food groups are represented in their found art creations!

Science- Nuitrition

In science, we are learning about the five food groups and healthy habits to be our best selves. The children have enjoyed participating in some interactive stories where Sir Milkford, King Henry The Egg, Queen Anna Banana, Prince Waffle and Princess Peapod help Little D (a purple dragon)! Also, we have been sorting our snacks and playing a game that reinforces eating a balanced meal. We are looking forward to our trip to Appleton Farms to learn more about the Diary group.

Independent Reading- Writing About Our Reading

This week, the children were excited to receive their new reading journals. They each personalized the covers and spent time exploring the sections of the journal. The children are responsible to read independently and to write about some of the selections.

Math- Word Problems

In math,we have been focusing on word problems.  The children are asked to solve problems with results unknown, change unknown and start unknown and to create a solution equation.  A complete answer must have a equations, simple drawings and a sentences answering the question in the problem.

We have been working with partners to support the children's work around the following Standards of Mathematical Practice:

Make Sense of problems and persevere in solving them
"When given a problem, I can make a plan to solve it and check my answer"

Reason abstractly and quantitatively
"I can use numbers and words to help me make sense of problems"

Construct Viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
